US Coast Guard Interagency Operations Center

ECH was hired by the United States Coast Guard to design and oversee the build of the new Interagency Operations Center (IOC)—a two-story 14,400 square-foot facility which co-locates Sector San Francisco operations that were previously housed across multiple facilities on the Yerba Buena Island base. These operations include the Sector Command Operations Center, Vessel Traffic Services Watchstanders, the Field Intelligence Support Team (FIST), Port Partners, and Rescue 21.

The facility is a critical piece to improving the agency’s efficiency and effectiveness in performing their essential mission. The project was built on a challenging site and was designed in conjunction with a ground improvement system consisting of geopiers to resist vertical settlement and lateral spreading in the event of a seismic event. The facility has been certified with a LEED® Silver Rating for Sustainable Design and was awarded the Society of Military Engineers’ Seattle District Gold Award during their annual Design Excellence Awards.
